We have at least one more World Series game…
…but are the Yankees a threat to really turn this into a series?
Hope In The Bronx
What Happened: It was only one game, but the Yankees are officially on the board in the World Series. More importantly, there’s hope that this series can go even beyond five games, even after the Dodgers took an early 2-0 lead in Game 4 and seemed destined to complete the sweep.
Why It Matters: The odds are still against New York to pull off the reverse sweep, of course. But things are certainly more interesting entering tonight.
The books are expecting a Game 6, installing the home team as -144 odds (FanDuel) to win tonight. L.A. remains firmly in the driver’s seat at -950 to eventually earn that fourth win.
For Aaron Boone, getting the ball back to his ace should help fuel some optimism. Gerrit Cole was excellent in Game 1, allowing just four hits and one run in 6.0 innings.
A repeat performance, plus an all hands on deck approach from the bullpen, would push this series along, giving the Yankees reason to believe heading back to the west coast. It would certainly cause some perspiration in the Dodgers clubhouse too, even if the odds are telling Shohei Ohtani and the gang to relax and see this thing out.
What We’re Watching Today
Dodgers at Yankees (8:08 PM ET) – Despite concerns about his velocity being down, L.A.’s Jack Flaherty was solid in his start against the Yanks in Game 1 as well. If he can be Cole’s equal, that’s probably a win in Dave Roberts’ mind.
Lakers at Cavaliers (7:00 PM ET) – Your Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers! LeBron’s former team is off to a red-hot start, taking four of four. Tonight, they host franchise legend and team dad LeBron back home, who has guided the Lakers to a solid 3-1 start.
The Look Ahead
Kyle Connor ANY TIME GOAL SCORER – Connor is a major reason why Winnipeg has the best record in the NHL so far. The Jets veteran is currently in the top-10 in league scoring, and hasn’t finished a game without a point all season. He has 8 goals in 9 games, finding the back of the net three times in the last two games. The Red Wings have surrendered 11 goals in their last three, hardly a stingy defense to navigate for Connor.
