Shohei Ohtani is in for big trouble, but not as much as John Calipari.
Plus, meet the old trends, same as the new trends.
Tournament Day 1 Delivers
What Happened: The tournament wasted no time in delivering excitement, with no. 3 Kentucky losing in shocking fashion to Jack Gohlke and no. 14 Oakland. After the upset, Gohlke proclaimed “we’re not a Cinderella.” Uhh, sure man, whatever keeps you motivated.
Why It Matters: Is now the time to pounce in the South region of the bracket?
With John Calipari’s team no longer a threat, the odds for Marquette and Duke both improved slightly (from +2500 to +2000 and +3000 to +2500 respectively) to win the tournament.
The Florida Gators also got a decent bump from +6500 to +5500 with one fewer heavyweight on their potential path to the big game. If you think Kentucky’s loss is the start of a real shakeup in that region of the bracket, consider this your chance.
How We’re Feeling Today
Wondering if we’ve seen the last of Shohei Ohtani?
The new Dodgers superstar is currently embroiled in a scandal that involves gambling allegations and his interpreter. It doesn’t seem as if Ohtani is being accused of putting money on games, but needless to say, MLB can’t be happy its biggest star on one of its marquee franchises is being associated with illegal sports betting and potential fraud.
The Look Ahead
Jonathan Kuminga POINTS + ASSISTS – Kuminga’s line for tonight is 22.5 for a P+A wager. The Warriors forward has gotten to that number with points alone in four of his last six games. Facing one of the worst defenses in the NBA (Indiana) tonight certainly ain’t gonna hurt his chances to post another big point total either.
Georges Niang POINTS + ASSISTS – We like Niang’s 13.5 line tonight at plus money, considering the Cleveland forward is averaging 15 points across his last seven games. Minnesota plays a stifling brand of defense, but Niang has been playing over 30 minutes a game as of late, boosting his chances.
Michael Bunting SOG – Look, this one is simply working ok? We don’t care if you are sick of seeing it. Bunting has played seven games with Pittsburgh, and he’s gone over his line for tonight of 2.5 SOG in all but one of them.
