The Yankees are playing with fire, no one is happy with the Cowboys, and a rookie emerges in Utah.
Yankees in Limbo
What Happened: New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole got a (kinda, sorta) encouraging update on his right elbow. Cole apparently won’t need Tommy John surgery, at least just yet. But he will be shut down for at least a month, probably longer, but will go the “noninvasive” route to try and heal.
Why It Matters: Oh boy, does this not sound good for the Yanks. Forgive the cynicism, but it feels like Cole’s gonna need the surgery, and this decision just delays the inevitable. (Can we bet on that outcome?)
But what does this do to New York’s World Series aspirations? FanDuel has the Bronx Bombers with the fourth-shortest odds of any MLB team (+900) to win it all, trailing just the Dodgers (+320), Braves (+450), and Astros (+700). Does Cole’s injury clear the path for Houston to make another run? Are the Orioles (+1400 WS odds, +200 AL East) now the team to beat? A lot hinges on the status of Cole’s elbow.
How We’re Feeling Today
Amused by the Dallas Cowboys and their fans. Following an embarrassing showing in the playoffs, America’s Team has done nothing in free agency while losing key contributors. Naturally, fans are mashing the panic button, wondering what the hell the Jones family is doing.
The team’s braintrust weakly acknowledged fan sentiment while blustering about sticking to “what they believe in.” Cowboys fans don’t deserve happiness, so if this leads to another playoff L for Jerry Jones, sign us up.
The Look Ahead
Duncan Robinson POINTS + REBOUNDS – The Miami sharpshooter has a 16.5 P+R line for tonight and is facing the Pistons’ atrocious defense. Robinson is averaging 14.2 PPG and 3.7 RPG in March, and against Detroit 10 days ago, he posted 18 points and three boards. Run it back Duncan.
Keyonte George POINTS + ASSISTS – A lot has been asked of the rookie guard this season, but he’s stepped up lately. George has dished out five or more assists in eight of his last 10. He’s also dropped four games of 25+ points during that span. He should feast on a bad ATL defense, which makes a 24.5 line enticing.
Seth Jones SOG – If you can snag Jones over 2.5 SOG at plus money, grab it. The Chicago d-man has multiple shots in 10 straight, and in only one of those games did he fail to get off three shots.
