It’s a no-fear offseason from the Texans.
In other news, a no-name NBA player becomes a someone, and we’re back on Joel Embiid injury watch.
Texans Take Big Swing
What Happened: The Houston Texans tripled down.
After signing several veterans in free agency, signaling their desire to accelerate their rebuild, the team swung a deal for WR Stefon Diggs yesterday. C.J. Stroud has his new no.1 target.
Why It Matters: Super Bowl odds! And boy have they changed as a result of this deal.
Houston opened the offseason with +2500 odds to be next season’s champs. With Diggs in the fold, those odds have jumped up to +1500. Stroud was an MVP candidate as a rookie; oddsmakers expect the Texans to take the next step after making the playoffs, and fast. (Stroud’s MVP odds moved as well, shifting from +1100 to +1000.)
On the flip side (turn away now Bills fans), Buffalo’s SB odds moved from +1200 to +1400, with Josh Allen’s MVP odds downgrading from +800 to +900.
This trade shifts the NFL landscape; it’s now up to you to cash in.
How Weâre Feeling Today
Wondering who the hell Malachi Flynn is and how he pulled off last night.
Just for background: Flynn has already been traded twice this season, first from the Raptors to the Knicks, and then from the Knicks to the Pistons. Then he drops 50 points out of nowhere last night?
Where is the brave soul out there who is going to take an over on Flynn’s points prop tonight? Or do you think Flynn has already spent his bullets for this season?
The Look Ahead
Bo Horvat SOG – The Islanders and Blue Jackets are both bottom-four in shots allowed per game, so expect a wide open one tonight. Horvat is coming off a five-shot night on Tuesday, finding the back of the net against Chicago. We like him to pepper the Columbus net tonight with a line of 2.5 SOG.
Brandon Hagel SOG – The Lightning winger has recorded multi-shot games in three of his last five, and tonight gets a Montreal defense that allows shots on goal at the NHL’s third-highest rate. 1.5 for a SOG line seems light.
Bam Adebayo POINTS + ASSISTS – If Joel Embiid doesn’t play tonight with injury maintenance, we’ll like this 21.5 line even more. Adebayo has scored 21+ points in three of his last four games, adding 20 total assists over this span. The Heat are trying to stave off the Pacers and 76ers to avoid the play-in tournament, so Adebayo needs to get his numbers up.
