Place your bets now, because the NFC East race is about to swing in someone’s favor…
(and it ain’t the Cowboys.)
Top Spot In East Up For Grabs
What Happened: Look closely and it’s tough to spot daylight between the two NFL teams in action tonight, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
Both teams have seven wins; the Commanders have a +73 point differential, just one tick higher than Philly’s +72. And both are 2-0 in divisional play, although that will of course change tonight, barring a tie.
Why It Matters: Washington has successfully covered in seven of ten games entering play tonight, the best mark in the NFL. As the road team, they are 3.5-point underdogs in a game that’s going to have major implications for the eventual winner of the NFC East.
They are also running into a hot Philly team; the Birds are on a 5-game win streak, with three of those victories coming by at least 20 points. It hasn’t been a murderer’s row of opponents, but sound defeats point to a team getting better as the season goes on.
As for the NFC East race, it’s a two-team sprint from here. The Jayden Daniels hype hasn’t swayed the books yet, with Washington +195 to win the division, trailing Philly at -240.
The Eagles have the 13th-toughest remaining strength of schedule, whereas the Commanders have the 9th-easiest slate of games remaining. It’s up to you if you wanna watch this head-to-head matchup play out or grab your choice for the division now before the lines move.
What We’re Watching Today
Commanders at Eagles (8:15 PM ET) – Jayden Daniels is already a shoo-in for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. But in primetime, against a divisional rival, he can make his case for MVP contention if he shows out tonight. This will be a big test for Washington’s QB of the future.
Mavericks at Jazz (9:00 PM ET) – Hope this matchup excites you, because it’s the only one on the NBA schedule tonight.
The Look Ahead
DeVonta Smith ANYTIME TOUCHDOWN – Washington’s defense has allowed 12 touchdown passes to wide receivers, and have been particularly susceptible to big plays, giving up four TD passes of 30+ yards. Smith was held in check by Dallas on Sunday, but had scored in back-to-back weeks prior. A.J. Brown should be the focus of the Commanders’ secondary, leaving the Slim Reaper plenty of chances in 1-on-1 coverage to find the end zone.
