After another dramatic victory on Monday Night Football, it’s time to start wondering…
…will the Chiefs ever lose again?
Chiefs Stay Chiefing
What Happened: Welp, they did it again.
A Patrick Mahomes injury scare, a Travis Kelce fumble, slick weather conditions, and a game pushed to OT, and none of it ended up mattering. The Chiefs improved to 8-0, and questions about where this season is headed are popping up…
Why It Matters: Don’t bother checking odds for the Chiefs to make the playoffs (not even on the board at FanDuel as of this morning) or even win the AFC West (-1900). Those are as good as done.
No, if you really, truly believe in Kansas City and want to make some money on them, we officially have odds for Mahomes and this team to finish with a perfect 17-0 regular season record, at +750. You could also get them to finish the season with the best regular season record at -210, with the Lions (+460) the only other team whose odds are shorter than +1100.
According to Tankathon, the Chiefs have just the 17th-hardest remaining strength of schedule. Games against Buffalo, Houston, and Pittsburgh stand out as challenges, and we won’t discount how scrappy and competitive divisional games tend to be in this league.
There’s also the worry that Andy Reid takes his foot off the gas at some point; whether it’s to keep some wrinkles off tape before the playoffs, ensuring Mahomes is 100% healthy, or just a loss of focus for a team streamrolling its way towards a third title, being 100% locked in each NFL week is no easy feat. But if the Chiefs keep escaping games they could easily drop, the 1972 Dolphins might just get a run for their money.
What We’re Watching Today
Sporting vs. Manchester City (3:00 PM ET) – A shocking start to the month of November saw City drop points to Bournemouth in EPL action; can they bounce back in UCL play?
Real Madrid vs. AC Milan (9:15 PM ET) – Real hasn’t taken to the pitch since a 4-0 thrashing by Barcelona in El Clásico, but no one navigates this competition better than Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
Liverpool vs. Bayer Leverkusen (3:00 PM ET) – Xabi Alonso makes his return to Anfield, this time opposing his former club as a manger who has already found plenty of success in a short period of time.
The Look Ahead
Quinn Hughes SHOTS ON GOAL – Hughes has been filling up the stat sheet, recording at least three shots on net in eight straight contests. Against the Ducks tonight, we see Hughes blowing by his line of 2.5; no team in the NHL allows more shots per game than Anaheim’s 35.1, so Hughes will have plenty of opportunities to let the puck fly from the blue line.
