We might know where Juan Soto will ply his trade sooner rather than later…
…can you make money on this imminent move?
Landing Spot For Soto
What Happened: The 2023-24 MLB offseason offered less of a hot stove and more like a microwave that sometimes seemed on the verge of completely shorting out. The big ticket free agents idled on the open market, several of them well into spring training.
Bless Scott Boras and his superstar free agent, as it appears baseball fans are about to get big news before Christmas.
Why It Matters: According to the rumor mill, big fish Juan Soto is expected to pick his next employer soon, perhaps even before the winter meetings kick off next Monday.
Baseball insiders have narrowed down Soto’s likely suitors to the Mets and Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Blue Jays. The natural question, then, is how the betting markets will react when Soto does make his decision.
Well, the Dodgers are favored to repeat next season, with +370 odds to win the 2025 World Series. Next up? The Yankees at +650.
If there is value tracking Soto’s free agency, perhaps the Mets at +550 to win the National League is your play. Many around baseball deem Steven Cohen’s wallet the favorite to land Soto. For a team that was two games away from a trip to the World Series, adding a 6-WAR player such as Soto might push the Amazins over the edge.
What We’re Watching Today
No. 15 Baylor at No. 25 UConn (6:30 PM EST) – After the last two seasons the Huskies have put together, watching them lost three straight was positively shocking. We won’t count out Dan Hurley before conference play even tips off, but this team clearly has some work to do.
Timberwolves at Clippers (10:30 PM EST) – A 2-4 start has been mitigated by Los Angeles, who has won eight of its last 10, jump-started by a five-game winning streak. The T-Wolves snapped a recent four-game skid by beating these same Clips, but a 10-10 record almost a quarter of the way through the season is a troubling sign for Minnesota.
The Look Ahead
Trae Young PRA – The worrying part: Young’s scoring output this season would be the lowest since his rookie season. The encouraging part: he’s averaging the most assists in his career. Young has posted double-digit assists in 10 of his last 13 games, he’s grabbing close to four boards a game, and we know he can go off for a 30-point game at a moment’s notice. (He’s done it four times already this season.) His line is 35.5 tonight, and we are taking a hard look at the over here.
