We won’t be seeing much of CeeDee Lamb anytime soon…
but if you look up, you might catch some Olympics-style cheating.
Holdout Time in NFL
What Happened: NFL training camps get underway this week, and while you might be interested to see how your team’s new draft pick looks in pads or if a certain player is ready to make the leap from no-name to Pro Bowler, we’re more interested in who won’t be showing up for work.
The list includes some big names, including Jets defensive end Haason Reddick, but none are bigger than Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who wants a more lucrative payday and won’t report to camp today while he waits for Jerry Jones to blink.
Why It Matters: Well, if you are interested in making any futures bets ahead of the 2024 regular season, you might want to make sure the player is actually going to, ya know, play.
Not that there’s much fear that Lamb will miss the football that actually matters. But after leading the league in receptions last season, will an abbreviated offseason hurt or motivate the Dallas star?
Over at FanDuel, Lamb is +800 to lead the NFL in receiving yards in 2024. Ahead of him are Tyreek Hill (+500) and Justin Jefferson (+750.) Hill is seeking an extension to his deal as well, although he seems less likely to agitate for one so far, while Jefferson landed himself a contract richer than any player in NFL history this offseason, non-QB division.
If Lamb sits out a portion of the offseason, he might start the season slow, which in turn would negatively affect his chances at topping any stat with so much wide receiver competition in the league today.
How We’re Feeling Today
Shocked by the conduct of certain Canadians at the Paris Olympics.
It’s been reported that two coaches from the Canadian women’s soccer team have been 86’d from the team after they were caught using a drone to spy on the practice of upcoming opponent New Zealand.
On the one hand, who had Canada cheating on their Olympics bingo card? We’ve been led to believe our neighbors to the north are nothing but respectful and kind…
…which sorta tracks with the fact that these Canadian coaches were pretty darn bad at cheating! Seriously, these masters of subterfuge flew a drone over a soccer practice at the Olympics and figured no one would notice?
It’s clear these Canadians were out of their element; the 2024 Olympics haven’t even begun yet, and already, their bungling cheating efforts have been exposed. The lesson here, kids: don’t try to be something you’re not.
The Look Ahead
Michael Wacha STRIKEOUTS – Only two clubs have struck out more as a team than the Arizona Diamondbacks since the All-Star break, so Wacha’s 4-strikeout line has us thinking about playing the over tonight. The Kansas City right-hander has produced more than four Ks in seven of his last 10 outings, and he whiffed seven in his last start against the White Sox. (One of the two teams with more strikeouts than Arizona since the Midsummer Classic.) Wacha’s strikeout line feels light considering the light-hitting lineup he gets to face today; it just might be worth playing.
