Another loss put the Jacksonville Jaguars in a position no team wants to be in.
Plus, a reunion in the NBA is going down tonight.
Jaguars Are #1!
What Happened: Sunday’s putrid 12-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings sunk the Jacksonville Jaguars into pole position for the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
For a team that just inked its supposed franchise quarterback to a $275 million contract extension, it seems unlikely the Jags would look to take a passer with the no. 1 pick if they “earned” it.
But that doesn’t jibe with the player oddsmakers like to be the first selected when the draft rolls around in April…
Why It Matters: Despite the dual-threat star he shares a locker room with, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders remains the favorite to go first overall, with his odds at +300 courtesy of FanDuel.
Teammate and Heisman Trophy favorite Travis Hunter has +750 odds, the third-shortest of any player on the board. Jacksonville doesn’t seem inclined to take a QB, but trading out of the #1 spot would be tempting, allowing a team such as the Giants or Browns to move up for their next quarterback of the future.
But if the Jags stay put at number one? Hunter’s dual-threat capabilities make him an intriguing option to be selected first overall by a team not in the QB market.
What We’re Watching Today
Mavericks at Warriors (10:00 PM ET) – Klay Thompson’s first game back in the Bay Area also happens to be an NBA Cup game, so emotions and the stakes here will surpass a usual regular-season game between these Western Conference rivals. (Here’s an explainer on the NBA Cup’s format, including what the courts will look like.)
Knicks at 76ers (7:30 PM ET) – A rematch of last season’s Round 1 playoff pairing finds both teams struggling so far. The Knicks are under .500 and still trying to figure out their defense; the Sixers are 2-7, but expect to have Joel Embiid in the lineup for the first time this season in what they hope will be the start of a turnaround tonight.
The Look Ahead
Mikal Bridges POINTS + REBOUNDS – Bridges is coming off his lowest scoring output (8 points) as a Knick in Sunday’s loss to Indiana. He carries a 17.5 line into tonight’s matchup against the 76ers, and we like Bridges to hit the over on it. In New York’s nine games, the former Brooklyn Net has topped this line six times, so while he may be underwhelming Knicks fans so far, he shouldn’t have trouble hitting these numbers.
