Aaron Judge

Time sure looks to be running out in the Bronx…

…recent World Series history says it already has.

Do Yanks Have A Chance?

What Happened: Losing Games 1 and 2 of a seven-game series puts a team in the jackpot, as baseball old-timers would say. But no need to panic — get back to your home ballpark, handle business in front of your crowd, and make it a series again.

Welp, it’s officially time to panic in New York.

Why It Matters: In recent World Series history, going up 3-0 is just as good as a clean sweep, as The Athletic’s Tyler Kepner points out.

It’s gotta be all hands on deck for Aaron Boone, but he’s just about run out of strings to pull to get his team out of this ill-timed funk. Benching the slumping Aaron Judge isn’t realistic. The Yanks tried to manufacture a run on the basepaths and got punished for it. Maybe intentionally walk Freddie Freeman next time up?

History isn’t on the side of a potential Game 5, but the oddsmakers aren’t paying that any mind. New York is -146 to win tonight, with the Dodgers a +124 underdog to close this out in four games. Pick your side: either Los Angeles is inevitable, or the Yankees will go down swinging and at least present some sort of challenge to the NL champion. Boy, did we arrive at this critical moment quickly.

What We’re Watching Today

Anthony Edwards

Dodgers at Yankees (8:08 PM ET) – The Dodgers will go bullpen game here, throwing a dizzying array of arms at the Yankees’ lineup in hopes of keeping it off-balance. Sandy Koufax would never allow it…

Timberwolves at Mavericks (7:30 PM ET) – An early season rematch of the Western Conference finals with both teams sitting at 2-1. It will hardly be consolation, but the T-Wolves catch the Mavs on the second night of a back-to-back, which might afford them a small level of revenge.

The Look Ahead

De’Aaron Fox POINTS + ASSISTS It’s early, but the Jazz’ defense has been awful to start the season, allowing 121 PPG through three losses. Fox put up big assist numbers in Sacramento’s first two games (11 and 10) and is averaging 22 points so far. His 29.5 line shouldn’t prove an issue against Utah’s defensive unit tonight.
