UConn Remains CBB’s Top Dogs
What Happened: An outcome that felt fairly inevitable since the NCAA Tournament started came to fruition, as UConn steamrolled Purdue en route to a second consecutive national title.
The Huskies won and covered every game they played in March Madness, and they look like a dynasty in the making.
Why It Matters: Will Dan Hurley be able to pull off a three-peat? Oddsmakers are split on that proposition.
Caesars Sportsbook (+1000) and ESPN BET (+900) both have UConn as favorites to win again next season. But DraftKings odds favor Duke at the moment (+1000), with UConn second at +1400.
FanDuel is even more skeptical, with UConn sporting the sixth-best odds to prevail again next season at +1800.
How We’re Feeling Today
Inadequate, after watching Elly De La Cruz excel in more ways than one last night for the Cincinnati Reds.
Hitting a home run in an MLB game? Impressive. Hitting two in a game? Beyond noteworthy. But have we ever seen a player hit such different dingers in one game?
De La Cruz came up in the bottom of the fifth and smoked a 450-foot bomb from the left side of the plate. Two innings later, from the right side, he ripped a line drive into centerfield that became an inside-the-park home run.
An absolutely disgusting combination of power and speed. We can’t even have one of those skills, and De La Cruz has both. Talk about life not being fair.
The Look Ahead
Naz Reid POINTS + REBOUNDS – The big selling point for backing Reid is that he has entered Minnesota’s starting lineup with Karl-Anthony Towns down with an injury. Reid is coming off a 31-point, 11-rebound effort on Sunday, but he’s dropped 20+ points in five of his last eight, and added double-digit rebounds in half of those games. As long as Reid’s playing starter minutes, he’ll get a chance to top his 26.5 line against a garbage Wizards defense.
CJ McCollum POINTS + ASSISTS – Remember two factors for this play: first off, Portland ranks eighth-worst in defensive rating in the NBA. Secondly, McCollum played nine seasons for the Blazers, so he’ll surely want to shine against his old team. His line for tonight is 28.5; the New Orleans guard has scored more than 30 points in his last three games alone, plus he’s averaging 5.5 assists per game in April.
Tom Wilson SOG – Wilson’s line for tonight is 2.5 SOG and it’s currently at plus money. The pesky Capitals forward has recorded three or more shots in four of his last five games as Washington fights to remain in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Detroit is a bottom-five team in terms of allowing shots as well, which is why this play intrigues us.
