We can marvel at what the Mets are doing while also being just a bit skeptical…

…in fact, that’s our job.

Simply Amazin’

What Happened: As expert sports bettors, concepts such as “momentum” and “team of destiny” are hazy to us here at Full Card Sweep. They make for fun narratives, but aren’t always the pathway to winning bets.

That being said, what is going on with the New York Mets?

Why It Matters: The Mets are like a souped-up version of the college student who waited until the night before to finish a project that will determine their entire grade for the semester.

On Monday, the Amazin’s needed a ninth inning homer from their MVP, Francisco Lindor, just to get into the playoffs. Then, in the rubber match of their Wild Card series against Milwaukee, the boys from Queens waited until the ninth inning AGAIN to kick the offense into gear, scoring four runs to advance to the NLDS.

The question is: how much do you believe in this team’s ability to keep pulling off magic wins? And the oddsmakers are telling us: we don’t.

Facing their NL East rival Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets are a +158 underdog (FanDuel) to even make it to the NLCS. To win the National league entirely? A +550, the worst odds among the teams remaining (Phillies, Dodgers, and Padres.) And to win the World Series, the Mets are +1200 longshots; of the eight remaining teams, only the Royals have longer odds at +1400. (The Tigers are also a +1200.)

At this point, you can do one of two things: fade these miraculous escape acts the Mets have conjured up this week and back a heavy such as the Dodgers or Yankees. Or you can buy into the narrative, maybe have some fun (and stress) and see if this is a team that can keep defying the odds.

What We’re Watching Today

Dillon Gabriel

Michigan State at #6 Oregon (9:00 PM ET) – The spread here is 23.5, so we aren’t saying you should tune in expecting a competitive game necessarily. But of course, there are still reasons to watch, headlined by another chance to watch Dillon Gabriel spin the ball. The Ducks QB is 10th in the nation in passer rating and is still on the short list of Heisman hopefuls, featuring the fifth- or sixth-shortest odds for the award at most sportsbooks.

Syracuse at #25 UNLV (9:00 PM ET) – Upset alert on this one. UNLV has smoked its opposition so far this season, but Utah Tech is hardly a CFB powerhouse. Meanwhile, the Orange have already knocked off one top-25 outfit, upsetting #23 Georgia Tech in its second game. Syracuse is powered by its passing offense and QB Kyle McCord, who ranks 9th in the nation in passing yards and t-5th in TD passes. He has thrown for 335+ yards in all four of Cuse’s games (all wins), but has also tossed two picks in each of his last two games.

FCS Weekly Roundup

Kirk Cousins

Congrats to FCS VIP members who cashed the Falcons ML 2-UNIT POD yesterday! Of course, another winner was no surprise to them considering the run we are on. Facts incoming:

💪 The team is 26-9 over our last 35 plays overall, including 10-3 this week alone.

🏈 The Falcons win last night raised our football POD record to 12-4 lifetime.

⚾ Our MLB stretch is positively Mets-esque, hitting on 11 of our last 12 baseball plays! For the season so far, we are at 196-118. AKA in the money, big time.

📺 FCS Instagram Live sessions are officially can’t-miss viewing now as well after giving out David Montgomery and Drake London as First Touchdown Scorers this week. (Yes, both cashed.) That’s three First Touchdown Scorer plays we’ve given out so far this NFL season, and we’ve nailed each one.
