We’ll hear a lot about Shedeur Sanders and Colorado football this season…
will it mean anything in the end?
Heisman Campaign Starts Today
What Happened: At least in the early going, no college football team grabbed headlines quite like the Colorado Buffaloes last season. A legendary former player as the coach, his son QBing the squad, a star two-way player, and a lot of (self-created) hype surrounded the team. A 3-0 start didn’t hurt. But what came next did, and now, the Sanders family is back for revenge.
Why It Matters: Will that mission be accomplished, and if it is, is there a Heisman Trophy in Shedeur Sanders’ future?
Media buzz is a necessary component of a successful Heisman campaign; based on last season, that won’t be an issue here.
What might be is the offensive line play, after Sanders was sacked a whopping 52 times in 11 games. But if Sanders can remain upright, he should build on his 3,230-yard 2023 season.
DraftKings currently has 12 players with better odds than Sanders (at +3500), although BetRivers has reported than Sanders has garnered double the action of any other contender.
Team success might elude Sanders, but with his pedigree, his father’s thirst for media attention, and athleticism few in the college game can match, he’s no doubt in the running for college football’s most fabled trophy. Just ask Coach Prime.
What Weâre Watching Today
US Open (All Day Coverage) – Today’s most intriguing match features a resurgent (and well-dressed) Naomi Osaka (7:00 PM EST) as she tries to get back atop the women’s game.
We’ll also be watching American vs. American as no. 6 Jessica Pegula takes on Sofia Kenin at Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as Spanish wunderkind Carlos Alcaraz (7:00 PM EST) on the tournament’s main court.
UEFA Champions League Draw (12:00 PM ET) –Â Ok, we won’t really be watching this live. But if you are anything like us (hopefully you aren’t), you’ll check out where your favorite club is traveling to and dream up a vacation to see a match live before grumpily figuring out which streaming service you need to buy as you watch on your couch while pretending to work on a Wednesday afternoon.
North Dakota State at Colorado (8:00 PM ET) – If Sanders is going to win a Heisman, his campaign will start tonight. We’ll be tuning in for some anticipated fireworks.
The Look Ahead
Brady Singer STRIKEOUTS – Singer’s prop line for today is 4.5, one whiff below his average per start this season. The KC righty has gotten at least 5 Ks in four consecutive starts (and in six of seven), and he’s demonstrated an ability to pitch deeper into games (compared to many of his peers) with 146.2 innings thrown this season, so he will get the chance to hit the over on this one.
