What Happened: For both the Mavericks and Timberwolves, this is unchartered territory.
Dallas took Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, 108-105 on the road. For coach Jason Kidd, it was the first time in six playoff series that his team was able to grab a 1-0 lead. Nothing like setting yourself up for success.
As for Minnesota, this is the first time it’s lost the opener after smashing the Suns and Nuggets in back-to-back tries. The T-Wolves had to claw back into the series against Denver after a 2-0 advantage became a 3-2 deficit, so we know they are capable of reinserting themselves following a stumble.
Why It Matters: Series aren’t won or lost in Game 1 alone. Nevertheless, the odds here have shifted dramatically following Dallas’ upset.
Before this series began, the Mavs were a +140 underdog to the -165 Timberwolves.
Gaining the upper hand early has completely flipped those odds, as you can now grab Dallas at -165 to win this series, while Minnesota wears the +140 hat down a game.
How We’re Feeling Today
Skeptical of what Dak Prescott had to say about his contract situation.
Namely, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, entering the final year of his contract with the team, had this to say about his salary: “I don’t play for money. Never have never cared for it, to be honest with you.”
Yeah right! Look, money is probably not the sole reason Prescott (and many others) pursue a career in the NFL. But still, “never cared for it?”
Dak has made over $160 million in his career. If he didn’t want all that money, he could’ve told his agent to not bother negotiating. Play for the minimum, if the money is that inconsequential.
Or, just admit that making a ton of money playing for the most famous (American) football team in the world is a pretty sweet gig and you want that to continue.
The Look Ahead
Tyler Seguin POINTS – We are expecting a high-flying Game 1 between the Oilers and Stars tonight, so why wouldn’t we like Seguin at plus-money to register at least one point. The Dallas center struggled against the Golden Knights, but managed three goals and two assists against Colorado in the previous round, recording multiple shots in each game. With plenty of skill on each side, we like lots of goals scored tonight, and Seguin should find himself involved in at least one.
