Free Agency Day 1 Impact
What Happened: It was a whirlwind Day 1 of NFL free agency with plenty of movement. Saquon Barkley left the Giants but remains in the NFC East, Kirk Cousins will be doing the Dirty Bird in Atlanta, and the Justin Fields trade market may have cratered.
Why It Matters: Some signings had obvious impact on the futures market. The Falcons inking Cousins moved their odds to win the NFC South from +110 to -110. By adding Barkley and pass rusher Bryce Huff, Philly became the most bet on team to win next season’s Super Bowl at +1700.
Then there is Russell Wilson joining the Steelers, which moved their Super Bowl odds from +7500 to…+7500.
How We’re Feeling Today
A little baffled honestly, about the aforementioned rush to throw money on the Eagles to win Super Bowl 2025. Huff is a nice addition for sure, but was this team really a running back away from a Lombardi trophy? They lost six of their final seven games of the season and got carved up by Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers in the playoffs. And Fletcher Cox has hung up his cleats already. Guess “Go Birds” doesn’t take a day off.
The Look Ahead
De’Aaron Fox POINTS + ASSISTS – A 34.5 P+A line for Fox at +100 (currently on DraftKings) has our eye. Fox has topped that total in seven of his last 10 games, and scoring guards have given the Bucks defense fits this season. The Kings guard is worth a look tonight.
Michael Bunting SOG – What hockey player on earth wouldn’t want to play next to Sidney Crosby? That’s what Bunting gets to do following a trade from Carolina to Pittsburgh. Bunting has posted seven shots in two games as a Penguin, so being Sid’s linemate (alongside some time on the power play) should push Bunting over 2.5 shots (a plus money bet) again tonight.
Josh Giddey POINTS + ASSISTS – Giddey is trending in the right direction as of late. He’s exceeded the 16.5 P+A line in four of his last five games, and gets to face a weak Pacers defense tonight.
